In 2019, we were contracted to develop a Dental Booking Mobile and Web Application for a client. The application’s key features included things like having clients book appointments with a dentist online, services, access subscriptions, subscribe for services through a points-based system and track payments.
At inception, we knew this project would include UX research, UI design and Corporate Branding.
Team: The Developers, Designers and Product Managers.
Tools: Adobe XD and Illustrator
Overview
In our meetings with the client, it was important to understand the problems we are trying to resolve for the users and administrators and align this with the vision for the app.
We worked with the client to identify the key features of the app, user flows, and pathways, determine who the primary users of the app would be. User research is always ground zero.
User Interface Development
The next stage for us was researching and understanding current trends in UI design, this included button designs, understanding how the chosen brand colors were to be used i.e the psychology of colors (with a focus on healthcare), navigation buttons, typography, cards, form inputs, alerts, icons, and logo design.
This stage involved a lot of research on pages like Behance, Dribble, Pinterest to find inspiration, sample ideas and forge a path on what elements to incorporate into the app interface.
With the above mentioned we created a Brandguide (or style guide), which was finetuned with feedback from the client.
Branding and Logo Exploration
After consultations with the client, we decided on the tone for the app. The client came up with keywords he wanted to focus on so that helped in deciding the direction in which to take the logo design.
Moodboards
At this point, we discovered the personality of the brand from the keywords we gathered and conversations with the client. We worked and tested our ideas and mood board with the client, deciding on the visual language and art direction of the app. Based on the feedback, we performed more exploration of the typeface treatment, finalized the logo design and moved on to wireframing and testing. We created sample wireframes, from simple sketches on paper to interactive prototypes to help us visualize and test the user flow and screen layouts.
Prototype
After testing the UI extensively, it was also important to model the user interface to see how users would interact with the app. We created an interactive prototype, to help view how the UX flow will look and interact with it as a prospective user. This left us with a variety of ways and methods to improve usability. After this stage was done, we were finally ready to begin development.
