Zero Hunger (SDG 2) and Good Health and Well-Being (SDG 3) are two of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations.

According to a study, poor diet is responsible for more deaths globally than other health risks like tobacco smoking and high blood pressure.

In addition, 40% of Nigerians live below the International Poverty Line, and hunger is one of the major problems that affect citizens. The Institute of Development Studies also ranked Nigeria the second-poorest country regarding food affordability.

At a time when many people in Nigeria go for entire days without food, and many of those who get enough food do not consume a poor diet, it’s essential to make healthy food more accessible.

That is what SoFresh is doing.

SoFresh is committed to motivating people to adopt a healthy lifestyle by making healthy food options available and accessible to the population.

The brand trusted the Astract9 team with their web and mobile application so that Nigerians can easily shop for fresh, delicious food with just a few clicks.

Overview

These statistics about the poor diet increasing the risk of death have called for the accessibility of healthy meals in the world, including Nigeria. SoFresh, a fast-growing food company, is making food accessible and available to Nigerians. And not just any food, healthy food that supports the health and well-being of people

SoFresh is a Health and Wellness brand that promotes a healthy lifestyle by providing fresh, delicious, nutrient-rich meals. This food chain offers a wide range of healthy meals, including salads, juices, smoothies, parfait, fiesta wraps, and sandwiches.

Challenge/Goal

SoFresh’s vision is to be the prime destination for people to make Clean, Safe & Healthy Food Choices in Africa. The brand is doing this not just by providing healthy food options but also by finding ways to make it more accessible to the populace. SoFresh built a web application for this; however, maintenance became an issue due to a lack of communication with the original developer. Like many other companies, SoFresh experienced some disruptions during the handover of their web applications.

The food brand contacted Astract9 to maintain and provide support for its web application.

Project Execution

Companies often experience disruptions during the handover stage, especially in cases where there’s a lack of communication with the old developer, like in SoFresh.  Astract9 encountered problems working and maintaining the already-built website, which was made worse by the lack of communication with SoFresh’s old developer.

To solve this and prevent spending more resources than needed on the existing application, SoFresh suggested building a new one. Astract’s role was to rebuild the entire application and extend it to a mobile application that covers multiple inventories across their stores in Lagos and Port Harcourt.

Currently, Astract9 helps SoFresh with the following:

  • Manage existing website
  • Make content edits
  • Moving the entire code infrastructure
  • Administering and maintaining the company’s website
  • Rebuilding the app

Results

Minimum Viable Product: Customers can now order products, and the admin and stores they ordered from get notified.  The initial application required a series of user journeys before customers could make a  purchase. So Astract9 implemented a one-cart-fits-all for their products so that it is scalable to accommodate any other thing that the company might need to sell.

Problems Encountered

We couldn’t reach the former developer, making it hard to work on the existing web application.

Also, it was hard to access the source code, so we had to rebuild the web application.

Client Review

The client is currently pleased with the job. Also, Astract9 carries the brand along through every milestone, so they have been able to make edits and reviews.
